Brawl between families sparks violent clashes in the district of Salzwedel, Saxony-Anhalt

Due to an ongoing feud between two families, there were fierce confrontations between the rival clans on Saturday evening in Salzwedel, Saxony-Anhalt. According to police reports, stones and bottles were thrown. Moreover, one person was injured—presumably by a knife—and two vehicles were set on fire. "It was a pitched battle," said Salzwedel police spokesman Thomas Bollmeier.

The clashes took place in the Neustadt district around 7:45 p.m. The police succeeded in separating the two groups at around 8:30 p.m. According to Bollmeier, around 30 to 40 clan members were involved in the clashes. The police were on the scene with a large contingent.

The exact cause of the renewed escalation is still the subject of investigation. According to the police, the clans have been fighting for several years over drug trafficking and other criminal activities. In the past, there have been repeated violent clashes between the two families.

The police have launched investigations into dangerous bodily harm, arson, and property damage. So far, one suspect has been arrested. The police do not rule out further arrests.
