Kramer, Mertesacker Return to Former Club in Coaching Roles

Former German internationals Christoph Kramer and Per Mertesacker have joined the coaching staff of their former club, Borussia Monchengladbach. Kramer, who made 16 appearances for Germany and played for Monchengladbach from 2013-2015, will take on the role of assistant coach. Mertesacker, a World Cup winner with Germany in 2014 and a long-time Arsenal defender, will serve as a coaching consultant.

Experienced Duo to Support Farke

Kramer and Mertesacker bring a wealth of experience to Borussia Monchengladbach. Kramer has been working as an assistant coach for RB Leipzig since 2021, while Mertesacker has been serving as Arsenal's academy manager since 2018. They will work alongside head coach Daniel Farke, who was appointed in May 2023. Farke welcomed the additions, stating, "I am delighted to have Christoph and Per on board. Kramer's Playing Career Highlights

Kramer is best known for his performances with Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen. He made his Bundesliga debut with Gladbach in 2013 and quickly established himself as a key player. Kramer was part of the Gladbach team that won the DFB-Pokal in 2014. He joined Leverkusen in 2016 and made over 100 appearances for the club. Kramer also earned 16 caps for Germany, playing in the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 European Championship.

Mertesacker's Success at Arsenal

Mertesacker spent most of his playing career with Arsenal, where he made over 200 appearances. He was a key member of the Arsenal team that won the FA Cup three times (2014, 2015, and 2017). Mertesacker retired from playing in 2018 and joined Arsenal's academy as a coach. He was promoted to academy manager in 2020 and has overseen the development of several young players who have progressed to the first team.
