DFB-Pokal: Marmoush Fires Eintracht Frankfurt Past Gladbach
Eintracht Frankfurt reached the DFB-Pokal semi-finals with a 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday.
Alassane Plea missed an early penalty for Gladbach, allowing Frankfurt to take control of the match. Randal Kolo Muani opened the scoring in the 26th minute, with Jesper Lindstrøm doubling the lead just before half-time. Omar Marmoush added two more goals in the second half to seal Frankfurt's place in the last four.
Frankfurt started the match brightly and were rewarded with a penalty in the 12th minute when Nico Elvedi fouled Kolo Muani. However, Plea's spot-kick was saved by Kevin Trapp, keeping the scores level.
Frankfurt grew in confidence after the penalty save and took the lead in the 26th minute. Kolo Muani latched onto a long ball from Trapp and fired past Jonas Omlin to make it 1-0.
Gladbach struggled to create chances in the first half and were punished again just before half-time. Lindstrøm collected the ball on the left wing and cut inside, before unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner to make it 2-0.
Frankfurt continued to dominate in the second half and added to their lead in the 53rd minute. Marmoush picked up the ball on the right wing and drove into the Gladbach box, before firing a low shot past Omlin to make it 3-0.
Marmoush sealed the victory in the 84th minute, scoring from close range after a cross from Ansgar Knauff. The goal was Marmoush's second of the match and his first in the DFB-Pokal.
Frankfurt will now face the winner of the match between RB Leipzig and Union Berlin in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.
