Im DFB-Pokal trafen am Dienstagabend der Drittligist SG Dynamo Dresden und der Zweitligist SV Darmstadt 98 aufeinander. Die Gäste aus Darmstadt gewannen die Partie mit 3:1 (1:0) und stehen damit in der zweiten Runde des Wettbewerbs.
Vor 20.172 Zuschauern im Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion entwickelte sich von Beginn an eine umkämpfte Partie. Die erste gute Möglichkeit hatte der Zweitligist aus Darmstadt. After a corner, Marvin Mehlem headed the ball just wide of the Dresden goal. Dynamo tried to respond with long balls, but they were often too imprecise. In the 35th minute, the visitors from Darmstadt took the lead. Marvin Mehlem received the ball in the Dresden penalty area and placed it in the far corner to make it 1-0 for Darmstadt.
The hosts came out of the dressing room with more determination in the second half. In the 66th minute, Christoph Daferner equalized for Dynamo Dresden. After a cross from the right, Daferner was able to head the ball into the Darmstadt goal from close range. However, the joy of the Dresden fans didn't last long. Only four minutes later, Phillip Pfeiffer put Darmstadt back in front. After a cross from the left, Pfeiffer was able to head the ball into the Dresden goal. In the 75th minute, Dominik Honsak sealed the victory for Darmstadt with a long-range shot.
Dynamo Dresden tried to get back into the game in the final minutes, but Darmstadt's defense held firm. In the end, Darmstadt won the game 3-1 and advanced to the second round of the DFB Cup.
