"He Destroyed Mick Schumacher": Former F1 Driver Blasts Ex-Team Principal, Advises German Against Audi Move
Ex-F1 Driver Blasts Ex-Team Principal
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has launched a scathing attack on ex-Team Principal Günther Steiner, accusing him of destroying Mick Schumacher's career at Haas.
Schumacher, who raced for Haas in 2021 and 2022, was dropped by the team at the end of last season after failing to impress. The German driver has since joined Mercedes as a reserve driver.
Schumacher's uncle, Ralf, believes that Steiner was too critical of his nephew and that his constant criticism undermined the young driver's confidence.
"He Destroyed Mick Schumacher"
"He [Steiner] destroyed Mick Schumacher," Ralf Schumacher told Sky Germany.
"He always criticized him too much. He never gave him a chance to develop. He always put him under pressure. That's not how you treat a young driver."
Ralf Schumacher also advised his nephew against making a move to Audi, who are set to enter Formula 1 in 2026.
"I would advise Mick against going to Audi," said Ralf Schumacher.
"They are a new team and they will need time to be competitive. Mick needs to go to a team where he can develop and show his potential."
Steiner Defends His Record
Steiner has defended his record as Team Principal of Haas, saying that he has always been fair to Mick Schumacher.
"I think I've been very fair to Mick," Steiner told Motorsport.com.
"I've always given him the opportunity to prove himself. But he hasn't always taken those opportunities."
Steiner also said that he believes Mick Schumacher has the potential to be a successful Formula 1 driver, but that he needs to improve his consistency.
"I think Mick has the potential to be a good driver," said Steiner.
"But he needs to be more consistent. He needs to make fewer mistakes. And he needs to learn to race wheel-to-wheel."
