Halloween with scary pumpkins and children in Saxony
Thousands of pumpkins, mysterious figures and colorful lights will once again put the Dahlener Heide in a state of emergency in October.
The Dahlener Heide will once again become a realm of pumpkins in October.
This year, the Halloween festival on October 29th and 30th will take place for the 21st time - with a new record number of 50,000 pumpkins. According to the organizer, the number of visitors is expected to reach 30,000.
The festival will continue to occupy the area around the medieval monastery ruin in Dahlen with the Nordsachsen pumpkin exhibition and the Halloween market. At the Nordsachsen pumpkin exhibition, around 50,000 pumpkins will be on display - there is sure to be something for every taste, from traditional to bizarre.
At the Halloween market, visitors will find more than 120 stalls with food and drinks, traditional handicrafts, unusual gift ideas and spooky souvenirs. There will also be a large children's area with a pumpkin carving workshop, a carousel and a ghost train.
The highlight of the festival will be the large Halloween parade on Saturday evening, which will start at 6 pm in Dahlen market square. Over 1,000participants are expected to take part in the parade, including around 200 costumed children from 15 kindergartens and schools.
The Halloween festival was first held in 2002 with around 5,000 pumpkins and 5,000 visitors. In recent years, the number of visitors has steadily increased to over 25,000. The festival is one of the largest Halloween events in Saxony and attracts visitors from all over Germany.
