"Anything is possible in football" - FC Kray hopes for a surprise
FC Kray meets Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup. The outsider from Essen has little to lose, but big plans.
FC Kray is an absolute underdog in the DFB Cup match against Werder Bremen. The club from the Essen district league will face the Bundesliga team on Monday evening (August 8th, 2022). "Of course, we are outsiders, but anything is possible in football," says Kray coach Thomas Ridder. "We want to annoy Werder Bremen and maybe even cause a surprise."
FC Kray has never reached the second round of the DFB Cup. In the previous year, the team was eliminated in the first round by Regionalliga club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. This time, the hurdle is even higher with Werder Bremen. The Bundesliga club is the clear favorite, but Kray wants to make it as difficult as possible for them.
"We have nothing to lose," says Ridder. "We can go into the game without any pressure and just enjoy it. We want to show that we can keep up with a Bundesliga team." FC Kray has been preparing intensively for the match against Werder Bremen. The team has trained hard and is highly motivated. "We know that it will be a difficult game, but we believe in ourselves," says Ridder. "We want to give Werder Bremen a good fight and maybe even cause a surprise."
FC Kray's underdog status could be an advantage
FC Kray's underdog status could be an advantage in the match against Werder Bremen. The Bundesliga club is likely to underestimate the outsider from Essen. This could give Kray the opportunity to surprise them. "We want to use our chance and show that we can play football too," says Ridder. "We want to make life difficult for Werder Bremen and maybe even cause a surprise."
The fans of FC Kray are also hoping for a surprise. They will travel to the match in large numbers and support their team. "We want to create a great atmosphere and help our team to victory," says fan club chairman Michael Müller. "We believe in our team and we know that they can do it."
