Liverpool beat stubborn Brighton in League Cup - ManUnited in control

Liverpool had to work hard to beat Brighton in the League Cup on Wednesday, while Manchester United cruised to a comfortable victory.

Liverpool were made to work hard for their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup as they beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's side took the lead in the first half through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's superb strike, but Leandro Trossard equalized for Brighton just before the break.

Liverpool eventually found a winner in the second half through Takumi Minamino, who converted from close range after a fine cross from Andy Robertson.

Manchester United 3-0 Aston Villa

Manchester United made light work of Aston Villa in the League Cup, winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils took the lead in the first half through Anthony Martial, who finished well after a good pass from Bruno Fernandes.

Marcus Rashford added a second goal for United in the second half, before Fred wrapped up the scoring with a fine strike from outside the box.
