Lotto-Pokal: Despite 2-0 Lead! ETV surprisingly fails against SVHR
Sensational cup surprise in the Lotto-Pokal
Oberligist ETV Hamburg surprisingly lost 5-3 on penalties to fifth division side SV Halstenbek-Rellingen in the first round of the Lotto-Pokal on Tuesday evening. After a 2-0 lead, the ‘Boys in Brown’ had to accept a surprise defeat.
ETV takes an early lead
The ETV started the game well and took the lead early on through goals from Oke Harms (5th minute) and Nico Empen (12th minute). The Oberliga side were clearly superior in the first half and could have extended their lead. However, the chances of captain Eißfeldt (20th) and Empen (33rd) remained unused.
SV Halstenbek-Rellingen comes back strongly
After the break, the game turned around. The fifth division team from Halstenbek came out of the dressing room much more aggressively and determined. They deservedly pulled back through goals from Jan-Ove Bäßler (50th) and Nico Zafar (60th). They even had the chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute. However, ETV goalkeeper Jakob Golz saved superbly from Bäßler.
Penalty shoot-out drama
As neither team was able to score in extra time, the game went into a penalty shoot-out. Here, the SVHR kept their nerve and won 5-3. The decisive penalty was converted by Halstenbek’s captain Jan-Ove Bäßler.
Disappointment for ETV, jubilation for SVHR
For the ETV, the cup exit is a bitter disappointment. The team had hoped to make it into the next round and thus secure a lucrative bonus payment. For the SV Halstenbek-Rellingen, on the other hand, the victory is a huge success. The fifth division team is now in the second round of the Lotto-Pokal and can dream of a duel with a professional club.
