Lünen - A woman ignored the barriers at a level crossing in Lünen on Tuesday morning and collided with a train. The 52-year-old was seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital. According to the police, she is not in mortal danger.

The accident happened at around 8:45 a.m. at the level crossing on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. The barriers were down and the warning lights were flashing. Nevertheless, the woman drove onto the tracks with her car. A regional train hit the car and dragged it along the tracks for about 15 meters.

The woman was able to free herself from the car on her own. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The train driver and the approximately 20 passengers on the train were unharmed.

The train traffic was interrupted for several hours. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
