Mourinho: "I don't want to be in a relegation battle"
Roma on course for a mid-table finish
Jose Mourinho says he does not want to be involved in a relegation battle with Roma next season. The Portuguese coach took over at the Serie A club in the summer of 2021 and led them to victory in the inaugural Europa Conference League last season.
However, Roma have struggled in the league this season and are currently 10th in the table, 11 points behind the top four. Mourinho has been criticized for his team's poor form and there have been rumors that he could be sacked if they do not improve.
Speaking to the media ahead of Roma's match against Juventus on Sunday, Mourinho said he is not afraid of being sacked but he does not want to be involved in a relegation battle.
"I don't want to be in a relegation battle," Mourinho said. "I want to be in a position where we can fight for something important. I think we have a good team and we can do better than we are doing now."
Mourinho also said that he is confident that Roma can turn their form around and finish in the top four this season.
"I believe in this team," Mourinho said. "I believe that we can do better. We have a lot of quality and we have a lot of experience. I am sure that we can finish in the top four."
Roma's next match is against Juventus on Sunday. The match will be played at the Allianz Stadium in Turin and will kick off at 20:00 CET.
