Philipp reveals SC Freiburg interest

Maximilian Philipp has hinted at a possible return to SC Freiburg. The attacker, who currently plays for Hamburger SV, spent four years at Freiburg between 2014 and 2017 before moving to Borussia Dortmund. Philipp has since had spells with Dynamo Moscow and VfL Wolfsburg before joining Hamburg in 2021.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, Philipp said that he could be open to a return to Freiburg in the future. "I had a great time at Freiburg and I still have many friends there," he said. "I'm not ruling out a return at some point."

Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach has also admitted that the club would be interested in signing Philipp if he were to become available. "Philipp is a good player and he knows our club well," Hartenbach said. "If he were to become available, we would definitely consider signing him."

Philipp has made 11 appearances for Hamburg this season, scoring one goal. His contract with the club expires in June 2024.
