Shopping spree on All Saints' Day: Siegen-Wittgensteiner flock to Hesse

A sea of people in Bad Berleburg and Erndtebrück

Thousands of bargain hunters took the opportunity to make purchases in the neighboring state of Hesse on the public holiday of All Saints' Day. In the border towns of Bad Berleburg and Erndtebrück, a veritable sea of people gathered in the streets.

In Bad Berleburg, the city center was so crowded that it was sometimes difficult to move forward. The parking lots were full, and the shuttle buses were running at full capacity.

Shopping until you drop

The shops in Hesse were open from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on All Saints' Day. Many shoppers took advantage of the opportunity to buy clothes, shoes, and other items at reduced prices.

Some shoppers even came from further afield. "I drove over from Siegen," said one woman. "The selection here is much larger than at home, and the prices are lower."

A welcome boost for the local economy

The influx of shoppers gave the local economy a welcome boost. The retailers in Bad Berleburg and Erndtebrück reported brisk business.

"We're very satisfied with the turnout," said one retailer. "It's great to see so many people shopping in our town."
