Siemens Leaves Essen Location After Almost 100 Years
Industrial Giant to Relocate to Modern Campus
Landmark Decision Marks End of an Era
Essen, Germany – Siemens, the global industrial conglomerate, has announced it will be leaving its long-standing Essen location after nearly a century of operation. The company plans to relocate to a modern campus in the neighboring city of Mülheim an der Ruhr by 2023.
Siemens has been a cornerstone of Essen's industrial landscape since 1923, employing thousands of workers and contributing significantly to the city's economy. However, the company's aging facilities and limited expansion options led to the decision to move.
The new campus in Mülheim will provide Siemens with a state-of-the-art facility that meets its growing needs for research, development, and production. The campus will feature modern laboratories, offices, and production halls, as well as amenities such as a fitness center and daycare.
The relocation is expected to create around 2,000 new jobs in Mülheim and boost the local economy. Siemens plans to invest around €200 million in the project.
"This is a landmark decision for Siemens," said Joe Kaeser, CEO of Siemens AG. "We have a long and proud history in Essen, but we need to adapt to the changing needs of our business. The new campus in Mülheim will give us the space and facilities we need to continue to grow and innovate for the future."
The move is a major blow to Essen, which is already struggling with economic decline. However, the city government has expressed its support for Siemens' decision and hopes that the company will continue to play an important role in the region.
