Werner hits the mark in Tottenham win – van Nistelrooy also celebrates
Werner on target for Leipzig
Timo Werner continued his impressive scoring form as RB Leipzig beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The German striker netted the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, converting a penalty after Richarlison had been adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
It was Werner’s third goal in two games for Leipzig since his return to the club from Chelsea. The 26-year-old is looking to rediscover his best form after a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge.
Van Nistelrooy's PSV also victorious
In other pre-season action, PSV Eindhoven, coached by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, beat Villarreal 2-1. Anwar El Ghazi and Johan Bakayoko scored the goals for PSV, while Nicolas Jackson netted for Villarreal.
It was a good result for van Nistelrooy’s team, who are preparing for the start of the new Eredivisie season. PSV will be hoping to challenge for the title this season after finishing second last year.
