Liverpool win in Brighton to book quarter-final spot
Liverpool beat Brighton 3-2 in a thrilling Carabao Cup fourth-round tie at the Amex Stadium. With the scores level at 2-2 after 90 minutes, Harvey Elliott’s 92nd-minute header sent the Reds through to the quarter-finals.
First-half goals from Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead. Leandro Trossard pulled one back for Brighton before the break, and Deniz Undav levelled in the second half to set up a tense finish.
Both teams had chances to win it in the closing stages, but it was Elliott who proved to be the hero for Liverpool. The 19-year-old midfielder rose highest to meet Kostas Tsimikas’ cross and send a powerful header into the net.
The win extends Liverpool’s unbeaten run to six games in all competitions. They will now face Manchester City in the quarter-finals at the Etihad Stadium on December 20.
