MainTEX 2024: Three-day Anti-Terrorism Exercise of Police and Bundeswehr – Continuation of Joint Exercise Series in Lower Franconia

Joint exercise with participation of military and police forces

As part of the regular exercise series, the Bavarian police and the Bundeswehr will jointly conduct a three-day anti-terrorism exercise called "MainTEX" from 6 to 8 March 2024 in the Main-Spessart district. The aim of the exercise is to further develop the cooperation between the two security authorities in the fight against terrorism and to improve the coordination of procedures.

Units from the Bundeswehr and the Bavarian police involved

The exercise will involve various units from the Bundeswehr and the Bavarian police, including the 10th Panzer Division, the Military Police Battalion of the Bundeswehr, the State Police Headquarters of Lower Franconia, and the Würzburg Police Headquarters. During the exercise, realistic scenarios will be played out in the area of the municipalities of Marktheidenfeld, Lohr am Main, and Gemünden am Main.

Practice of joint action in the fight against terrorism

The exercise will focus on practicing joint action in the fight against terrorism. This includes the coordination of command and control, the exchange of information, and the use of special forces. Furthermore, the exercise serves to train the use of new technologies and equipment in the fight against terrorism.

Further development of cooperation between the Bundeswehr and the police

The joint exercise is part of a series of exercises that have been conducted since 2017. The aim of these exercises is to continuously develop the cooperation between the Bundeswehr and the police in the fight against terrorism. The exercises are conducted on a regular basis to ensure that both security authorities are optimally prepared for possible terrorist threats.

During the exercise, there will be increased activity of military and police forces in the exercise area. However, no impact on the population is expected. The authorities ask the population for their understanding.
